Diego Velazquez
Spanish Baroque Era Painter, 1599-1660
Spanish painter. He was one of the most important European artists of the 17th century, spending his career from 1623 in the service of Philip IV of Spain. His early canvases comprised bodegones and religious paintings, but as a court artist he was largely occupied in executing portraits, while also producing some historical, mythological and further religious works. His painting was deeply affected by the work of Rubens and by Venetian artists, especially Titian, as well as by the experience of two trips (1629-31 and 1649-51) to Italy. Under these joint influences he developed a uniquely personal style characterized by very loose, expressive brushwork. Although he had no immediate followers, he was greatly admired by such later painters as Goya and Manet Related Paintings of Diego Velazquez :. | Portrait de I;infante dona Maria, reine de Hongrie (df02) | Adoration of the Magi (df01) | Two Men at a Table | Prince Baltasar Carlos on Horseback (df01) | Portrait of a Man | Related Artists: w. holmbergJules Breton1827-1906
French Jules Breton Locations
French painter and writer. After the death of his mother he was brought up in the village of Courrires by his father, grandmother and uncle. The last instilled in him respect for tradition and a commitment to the philosophical ideas of the 18th century. Breton father, as supervisor of the lands of the Duc de Duras, encouraged him to develop a deep knowledge of and affection for his native region and its heritage, which remained central to his art. Jacobus Mancadan (c. 1602, Minnertsga - 4 October 1680, Tjerkgaast) was a Dutch Golden Age painter mostly known for his pastoral landscapes.
